Jamie, Wendy, and their two children Brittany and Brandon reside in Bay City, MI and have traveled full-time across the U.S. and abroad for more than twenty years ministering in churches, conferences, and leadership settings.

Can you imagine how ridiculous this would be?  To be a team in a continuous huddle, ready to receive signals before a play….always planning what they were going to do…..but never DOING anything?

There are a lot of believers in this world, but there are also many souls around us who are dying and going to hell. So many who don’t know that Jesus paid the price for them to be saved, healed and delivered. So many who don’t realize, because of a Living Savior…. they can live in victory 365 days a year.

Just as the Good Samaritan when he found the man along side the road….stripped, wounded and bleeding and left for dead. He took the time and he paid a price for the man to be taken care of and to be healed.   Please, listen to me, church….We have to see the lost souls around us the same…. ones who are stripped, wounded, bleeding and left for dead. Many who have lost hope and don’t know where to find it.

As believers, how many times have we stood around in our “holy huddle” ….always talking about the lost souls and what we need to do…..but never follow through?

Our vision at Cornerstone has always been to reach the lost. We have been blessed to have been taught and have experienced much about the Word of God and how He has translated us from the enemy’s kingdom into the Kingdom of God’s Son. We need to break from our huddle in 2011 and reach those around us who do not know the Savior that we serve.

I think God would say to us, “This is NOT a game. It is reality!” We MUST follow through!

When Chris Brooks closes his eyes, memories of combat life in Iraq come rushing back to him. With war-time experiences weighing heavily on his life, he feels much older than 24, but he is unsure if

It is his hope when he closes his eyes again to think about those moments, he will do so among a group of people who share similar experiences and they can all find catharsis in solidarity. Even the oldest person shouldn’t have life experiences like he endured.

Brooks, with the encouragement of Cornerstone Christian Fellowship in St. Paul, has formed a prayer group specifically for veterans who have endured combat. The group will hold its first meeting at 7:30 pm on Friday, Feb. 11. The group is solely for veterans of any war and their spouses. It was his idea to create such a group to ease any suffering a veteran is dealing with in the company of people who understand.

“A lot of veterans don’t like to talk about it to people who don’t understand the things they went through, the things they did because of the situations they were in,” Brooks said. “A lot of civilians have no idea the kind of sacrifices you make to go somewhere to do a job or the decisions you have to make in an instant when you’re in a combat situation.”

Brooks believes creating a safe environment for veterans to share their feelings and experiences with a spiritual framework will help them ease the pain of their lives.

Brooks, a North Decatur graduate, entered the national Guard after high school where he met a girl, fell in love and got married. A military person herself, he felt she understood his need to go to Iraq. He transferred to the 101st Airborne Division and deployed for the first time in 2006. He returned less than 18 months later for a 15-month stint. Upon his return, his marriage, like many others, failed. They tried to reconcile but currently are in the process of a divorce.

With everything weighing on his mind, he visited Pastor George Mitchell at Cornerstone for some spiritual guidance. It was then he decided to help others like himself deal with some of the demons carried home from combat.

“I saw five friends killed. My roommate and lieutenant were killed in a humvee that I wa supposed to be in. I went through survivor’s guilt for a long time,” Brooks said. “Combat affects everyone in different ways. Most guys just put it on the backburner, but it comes out anyway and affects their marriage, job, kids, lives, even who they are as a person. I have a lot of friends whose marriages have failed in the most horrible ways.”

It is his hope that together, these veterans can turn something negative into a positive. Spouses of those deployed or soldiers who are about to be deployed are invited to attend the bi-weekly meetings as well. He noted both go through experiences in their own ways that no one else can understand but those who have been there.

He noted the group is confidential, non-judgmental and meant to find peace within the suffering for those who served their country. He noted even when a soldier leaves a war, there are others raging, internally and within the world.

“The wars are still going on over there. War is always going to be there. We’re always going to have conflict somewhere within our lives,” Brooks said. “we’re here to talk and pray. We’re using God to help us. In the last few years, I’ve become a lot closer to God and it has helped.”

Brooks said the group is not limited to those who have served in the most recent military incursions. Any combat veteran is welcomed and Brooks hopes within the confines of the group they will be able to lean on their brothers in arms to find solace.

We had a great time!!

A team of seven people from Cornerstone Christian Fellowship traveled overseas in June, 2010 to Thailand on a missions trip with John Smithwick Ministries International and Global Ventures. During this time of ministry JSMI saw 11,260 salvations – and we saw 278 healings/miracles! What an incredible time! In less than 10 days over 70 schools plus nightly crusades heard the gospel of Jesus Christ for the very first time for most with a 98% to 100% salvation rate. Our team composed of Courtney Jones, Brandy Adams, Mike & Amber Raley, Bev Adkins, Faye Stickford and Jason Quellhorst spoke to a school on the last day of ministry who had class at the Buddhist Temple that day. So we shared the Gospel of Jesus Christ in a Buddhist Temple in front of four monks, while all 168 children confessed Jesus as Lord! What a lifetime experience!
