In 1972, Bob Morgan answered a newspaper ad for the position of Pastor at the Disciples of Christ Church in St. Paul, Indiana. He, his wife Marilyn and their four children (Linda, Gary, Angie, and Josh) moved to St. Paul from Charlestown, Indiana where Pastor Bob fulfilled the pastorate position until 1976, at which time he felt the Lord was leading him back to Charlestown.
At this time there was a new church birthed out of the Disciples of Christ Church. This was the
establishment of what was then named “FAITH FELLOWSHIP”. Mel Hauck was the appointed
Pastor, along with his wife Dee. They had two children, Jeff and Lorie. There were approximately 35 members and they held church service in the St. Paul Civic Center.
In 1977, Pastor Hauck moved to California to be part of a ministry there. At this time, God called George Mitchell to fill the position of Pastor along with his wife Dorie and the support of their five children; Teresa, Tony, Kathy, Shannon, and Matthew.
The church continued to grow and in September of 1980, God opened the door to purchase 4 acres of land, which also provided a home for Pastor George and his family, along with several out buildings. One of which was converted into a sanctuary and another into Sunday school rooms.
When the church re-located, the name was then changed to “ST. PAUL CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP”.
The church continued to grow and in 1993, the sanctuary was enlarged and remodeled.
Within a short period of time, the church grew to the extent that a second service was needed on Sunday mornings.
In 1996, God then opened the door to purchase property adjacent to Interstate 74 and U.S. Highway 421, which is the site of current facilities. Construction was completed in June 1999.
With the relocation of the church and the expanded vision, along with the fact it was no longer a St. Paul address, it then became an “area church”, which led to the name change; from St. Paul Christian Fellowship to “CORNERSTONE CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP”.
In 1994, God spoke to Pastor George and Dorie to invite Bob and Marilyn Morgan to return to the area to be their assistant. They were gracious and accepted the invitation. Pastor Bob and Marilyn held that position of Pastoral Care at Cornerstone until April of 2005 at which time they felt it was time for them to retire. Then on February 22, 2008, at the age of 76 Pastor Bob Morgan passed away as a result of a heart attack.
In 2007 Jason and Rhonda Quelhorst became full time youth Pastor and children directors at Cornerstone. They have one son, Jayce.
Because of the need of more space for the youth ministry, an addition was constructed in 2008 by enclosing a drive through on the north side of the building. This addition consists of a meeting room for the youth and a basketball court. Plus it serves as an overflow for the Fellowship Hall.
In July 2010 Cornerstone started a day care for children from birth to 12 years of age. The title of the day care is “KORNERSTONE KIDS”. A play ground was added outside and the day care facilities were updated to meet standards.
This is the history of Cornerstone Christian Fellowship as to the date: August 2010.
